What JD Edwards Users Find Most Important in 2024
We asked the JDE community about their #1 priority for 2024. If you read last year’s community survey results, we saw a 50% increase in a specific initiative from 2023 to 2024.The top three initiatives that are top of mind for JD Edwards users this year are:
1st Priority: Upgrading their JD Edwards System
With the announcement of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Release 24, 30% of the JDE community surveyed is planning to upgrade in 2024. Even with its recent announcement date in November 2023, we’re already seeing customers moving to Release 24.
But why upgrade with this release?
After 9.2 was released 8 years ago, JD Edwards went into a continuous innovation model, focusing on delivering incremental value quarter after quarter. By using a continuous code line and increasing delivery frequency, Oracle JD Edwards reduced the number of upgrades and minimized changes between releases. This makes it easier to implement and maintain a code current strategy, which further enables a continuous adoption mindset.
Oracle is continuously coming out with new features and functions around applications. In fact, more enhancements and tools were added January 2024. Let’s dive into some of the top application enhancements with Release 24.
Application Enhancements
- Enterprise Automation: Requisition to Receipt
- Volume Based Buying Recommendations in Procurement
- Automated Safety Stock Population
- Enterprise Automation: Shipment to Dispatch
- OCI AI/ML Accelerator for JD Edwards
- Ability to View Details of Vouchers Associated with Purchase Orders
- View Joint Venture Parent BU in Business Units

Planning Your JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Upgrade
Delivering a successful JDE upgrade goes beyond merely adhering to “best practices.” True success hinges on employing real, practical techniques that actively engage the entire project team.
There’s a lot to consider and this only scratches the surface. If you want to dive more into your upgrade strategy for the year, leverage the expertise of our team.
2nd Priority: Additional JDE Functionality / Modules
If upgrading isn’t the main focus, JDE users are likely concentrating on maximizing their data’s value within the EnterpriseOne system. Our annual community survey indicates that over 27% of users prioritize adding functionality/modules to automate and streamline business processes, doubling from 2023.
Orchestrator Capabilities
Nearly 59% of surveyed JDE users prioritizing additional functionality/modules identified new orchestrator capabilities as their top priority.
Given the dynamic nature of the industry, maintaining accuracy and currency in your financial records, inventory, manufacturing processes, and project data is paramount. Furthermore, Orchestrator allows you to translate third-party data into EnterpriseOne values through cross-reference mapping seamlessly.
Collect, filter, analyze, and act on real-time data with these Release 24 Orchestrator improvements:
- Workflow Monitor
- Task Tracking
- Notification Reminders
- Output Stream Access for Orchestrations
- User-Defined Delimiter for Orchestrator Output to CSV
- Prebuilt Workflow Data Structures

3rd Priority: 64-bit
If you’re focusing on an upgrade in 2024, then this also means you’re moving JDE entirely to a 64-bit ERP. You’re not alone – over 13% of the JDE community surveyed said 64-bit processing is their top priority for the year.
Customers using tools release 9.2.5.x and earlier probably have a 32-bit JD Edwards setup and must upgrade to access the latest tools (9.2.6.x and above). Take this year as an opportunity to get current with code, infrastructure, third party apps and orchestrator. The upgrade is a requirement for customers who want to evolve their JD Edwards system.
While implementing 64-bit seems like a big undertaking for your organization, it simply eliminates the need for 32-bit compatibility. The software running natively in 64-bit operating systems has no impact on business processes or data. Look at it as a technical uplift within the foundation of JD Edwards.
Across the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne tools releases, Oracle has tested and concluded the following:
- Improvement in total average interactive response time in the 64-bit version of EnterpriseOne.
- Improvement in UBE runtime in the 64-bit version of EnterpriseOne.
- Decrease in Enterprise Server CPU usage in the 64-bit version of EnterpriseOne.
- Decrease in average C Business Function (BSFN) response time in the 64-bit version of EnterpriseOne.
- Increase in Enterprise Server memory consumption when moving from 32-bit EnterpriseOne to the 64-bit version.
- The IBM I on Power Systems platform is not discernibly impacted by 64-bit EnterpriseOne processing because this operating system is natively 128-bit.
- Package builds run longer in an EnterpriseOne install which maintains both 32-bit and 64-bit Business Functions.
