Planning Your JD Edwards Upgrade
Upgrading Your JDE
Businesses on an older version (pre-9.2) need to go through a traditional JDE upgrade process to get to the latest release. It’s a bigger initiative, a lot has changed between JDE 9.1 and the latest release.
If your company is on EnterpriseOne 9.2 – it’s a “mini-upgrade” process to get to Release 27. A mini-upgrade is not a major event, but certain things need to be tested from an integration standpoint. We can help do this using Orchestrator for some automated testing. We can also help you come up with a continuous improvement schedule to do these mini-upgrades and more.

JDE “Mini” Upgrade Process
Upgrading to the latest release ensures your business can leverage new features, security enhancements, and performance improvements.
Here’s an overview of our upgrade process for businesses on 9.2 that want to move to the latest release:
Assessment & Planning
Evaluate your current environment and identify customizations and third-party integrations that need to be tested. Develop a detailed upgrade plan that includes timelines, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
Infrastructure Refresh
Consider upgrading your infrastructure to cloud-based solutions to enhance scalability and reduce costs. Assess compatibility with 64-bit systems and ensure all third-party applications are compatible with the new environment.
Code Freeze & Testing
Implement a code freeze to limit modifications during the upgrade process, ensuring stability and reducing the risk of introducing new issues. Use JD Edwards Orchestrator for automated testing to streamline the validation of business processes and integrations
Upgrade Execution
Conduct thorough testing of all business processes, customizations, and integrations to ensure they function correctly in the new environment. Perform the upgrade, applying the latest tools and applications releases.
Continuous Adoption
Establish a continuous improvement schedule to regularly apply updates and enhancements, minimizing disruption and ensuring your system remains current.
Our experiences with Terillium over the last six or more years, including this upgrade to Oracle JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.2 UX One, has been phenomenal. The success of the project was directly related to the experienced, reliable resources Terillium delivered to the project.”

The Latest JDE Release: JD Edwards Release 27
Technology & Platform Updates
Release 27 is expected to move JD Edwards toward a 64-bit-only environment at both the Tools and application layers, along with a significant Java modernization from Java 8 to Java 21. Customers should begin evaluating customizations, integrations, Java dependencies and other components that could require compatibility testing or remediation.
The release also continues the modernization of the infrastructure supporting JDE, with older technologies including Solaris, AIX and full WebSphere being retired or phased out. WebSphere Liberty will remain supported.

Redwood User Experience
Release 27 will introduce the Oracle Redwood user experience to JD Edwards, bringing updated fonts, colors and a more modern look and feel. The transition is designed to minimize disruption, with existing fast paths, Event Rules and business logic remaining intact.
For organizations using both JD Edwards and Oracle Fusion Cloud, Redwood also creates a more consistent visual experience across their Oracle applications.
JD Edwards and the Future of AI
Release 27 also points toward the next phase of JD Edwards modernization with a planned MCP server for JD Edwards. This could create new opportunities for AI-enabled workflows and automation and help JDE participate in the broader agentic AI ecosystem.
Release 27 is another step toward modernizing the JDE platform while protecting the stability and business processes organizations already rely on.
